Coaxial Signal Distance Records - anyone know?
I pondered a hypothetical question for fun, what is the longest distance a signal (both analogue and digital) can travel through a coaxial cable (depending on it's design and materials) without being 'boosted' further down the line to a receiver (if this was in a 'cable-only' reception scenario)

OK, just for fun, lets say 1000 watts in at one end, and a loss of 3db per 100 metres. Lets say we can detect the signal at -120db, so thats a loss of 180db from input to output. 180/3 *100 is 6km Doesn't sound much does it?

^^^ Blinkin doesn’t sound much
Interesting question though
I know that the electricity companies send coms between power stations down the high voltage distribution cables (or at least they used to, not sure about now) and they must be a fair distance apart.

It depends on:
- Coax type
- Input power
- Input frequency

Also, does the dynamics change with an 'internal loop' set-up? (is this sent by balanced line or by coax?)
