Re: Numbers station on top band NOW
I love the numbers stations, and still find the idea of somebody, somewhere, writing down the numbers, using their one-time pad, and receiving secret messages from their bosses. In this day and age of decoding comms that we talk about so often, the notion of an old, unbreakable system makes me smile - and worse, makes me remember that people out there are still doing the really secret stuff.

Ha ha yeah paulers I don't think the antennas to receive it would be very secret though at those frequencies even a stealth long wire would be noticeable, you certainly wouldn't be fitting it in a hotel room.

Re: Numbers station on top band NOW
Numbers stations started my shortwave interest when I was a kid. I remember listening to what I had assumed to be a German woman sitting at a mic reading numbers over and over.
Mind you, I also remember running off yards of paper from a Creed 7E teleprinter decades ago, all numbers in columns assuming they were code, only later to find it was weather data.

Could it be, that the hardware there does not handle strong signals? I only know about RTL DVB stick, the common one, it invents a lot of stations. Airport, nearest FM station and the closest ham (100yards) are here and there on the dial. Were, actually, moved to countryside now.nay27uk wrote:the Hack Green online SDR

There's a page of info about the Hack Green receiver setup here - not quite an RTL DVB stick

Re: Numbers station on top band NOW
Yep seen that before it uses the same chip as the Softrock Ensemble 11 I built a few years ago and had to reluctantly sell due to needing the money. it uses the SI chipset so bang on frequency and the filters are top notch on thew ensemble 11.Freddie wrote:There's a page of info about the Hack Green receiver setup here - not quite an RTL DVB stick
very similar to the hack green kit

I must purchase another Ensemble 2 or 3 kit and get it built.
