What home antenna for use after passing test

Post by 108FB512 »

Im hoping to take my test in next few weeks so can move into the world of HAM Radio.

Thing is i live in a block of flats

I stay in top floor with a 2m x 2m balcony. I have nothing above me so can mount somthing vertical

Im looking for something that covers all of the popular bands but small in size

What would you guys reccomend

1/4 vertical GP for 2m band. Should fit perfectly.

Have a word with a radio shop. You don't say which "popular bands" you want to listen/transmit. If you get a 1/4 vertical GP for 2m band, then you are limited to transmitting on 2m and 70cm.

If HF then get an ATU, also measure your ERP, you can often crank the radio up to well above 10w (sometimes to 50w) with a shítty antenna and ATU so long as the ERP is 10w

I have one of these they seem to be the cheapest you can buy and cover both 2 meters and 70cm's. I also use it on pmr446. I wouldn't spend alot of money as the bands are dry.
