Glass mount antenna
Hi all, I know they are a compromise but I am considering trying a Panorama glass mount vhf antenna on my little Ford Fiesta. Is there a minimum amount of glass needed to set them up? The reason I ask is because I was looking at mounting it on a small rear window which is about 8 inches square (ish). I was going to try the Panorama as ive had good results with their pmr antennas in the past. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Re: Glass mount antenna
As long as there is room on the glass for the outer mount and the inner box that should be OK. You might come across a problem with the antenna whip passing close to the bodywork and effectively attenuating RF to/from it.. Might be best to ask Panorama..

Re: Glass mount antenna
A number of years ago, I used a Procomm 2m/70cm glass antenna and it was on the rear side quarter of my car so not a huge amount of glass.
If I remember correctly, there was a counterpoise that attached to the tuning box on the inside of the vehicle to assist with tuning and performance so if your antenna is the same, you might be able to mount it in a confined space with minimal glass surface.
Incidentally, performance was way better than I thought but it is a compromise.
