Re: What Ham Radio Stuff did you buy today? (2017)
Yep very well made units,i have seen the 100w versions going for £130 on ebay, also this unit will do about 150w as that is the spec for the SD1441 transistor inside it,i think its worth at least a £1 per watt as that's the value reckoning for tat cb radio linears aint it ,if somebody was to offer me £200 for it then i may let it go as that is what its worth to me & they were £300 new,but TBH i think the 12db gain Pre-Amp alone on it is worth its weight in gold, pulls in all sorts in that i cannot otherwise hear.

I was always of the belief that 2m was best suited to a masthead pre-amp, if that beasty actually works well on SSB (which I don't doubt your word Shaun) then I may be on the hunt for one myself as I'm starting to get back into 2m and locally we're just starting to mess with DMR on there via Teamspeak. 2m SSB on my 706 is a bit uninspiring, but if it had a decent pre-amp, and one in the shack rather than up the pole then that would be fantastic.

Funny enough a Bnos 100watt version just sold on HRD for £60 which to be fair is the cheapest ever I have seen a 2 mtr 100 watt brick sell for. don't think you would get anything near £200, I had one years ago in if memory serves me right I paid around £150 for mine ? again personally would say still worth around £140 -£150 . there again with ebay it's whatever someone will pay so maybe just maybe ?! but whatever it's worth it's got to be one off the best car boot finds I have heard off !! so well done again !

Re: What Ham Radio Stuff did you buy today? (2017)
I had my last one about four years ago and some monster (probably Buick Mackane) had put white LEDs in it !!! completely destroyed it, I gave it to my local club with an apology about the LEDs along with an FRG8800 that needed recapping. hopefully someone has restored them now.Crusader wrote:The old venerable AR88D got it last week but had to do a little refurb to it,looking the biz & sounding awesome, installing it in the shack tomorrow

Yep i saw that & thought it was a bargain, lets see what this fetches,it was listed at £74.99 starting price earlier today but guess what they have up'ted the starting price to £110.99 now even though they claim to "know nothing about it"gmham wrote:Funny enough a Bnos 100watt version just sold on HRD for £60
