Whats a SQUARE?

Post by nay27uk » 06 Jan 2017, 15:42

I am curently listening to the "Nantwich Secret Nuclear Bunker, formerly R.A.F. Hack Green" SDR on 3759.97 KHz LSB and ther is a bit of a net going on with ME's and G0's, M3's and M6's, Nice to hear them all being included.

Anyway an M6 has just said to another station "could you please confirm your Square" What the heck is a SQUARE?

Done all the usual GOOGLE searches for things like HAM JARGON SQUARE but with no results.

Should I already know all this when I am taking my Foundation in FEB?

Map grid reference would be my best guess, And i doubt you'll be asked that question during your foundation.

Thanks both that makes things easier to understand with the term of "MAP GRID REFERENCE" basically a square on a map hence the term "your Square".

Appreciate that lads

HaHa  , no thanks pal I know I won't be asked in the foundation stuff but if I do pass then I want a HF rig so may be asked by other operators at some point and I would not know what they were talking about, hence me asking the question.

I can be one or the other or both

For the centre of Leicester it is

Gridsquare: IO92KP

WAB Square: SK50

If asked they will say one of the above both have different answers
