Essex Skills Night Monday Oct 17

Essex Skills Night features on page 10 of the November issue of Practical Wireless magazine. The next Skills Night, hosted by the Chelmsford Amateur Radio Society Training Team, starts at 7pm on Monday, October 17. This free event is open to all, 26/27 MHz, PMR 446 and Scanner enthusiasts are most welcome.

Skills is your chance to get "hands-on" with aerials, datamodes, construction, our famous Quiz and more. A variety of "show and tell" tables with something for the new and experienced Ham alike. This is a FREE event and open to members, non-members and visitors - all are welcome and there's tea/coffee, too!

Skills Activities planned so far:-
• Construction: Chris G0IPU will be on hand with soldering & construction advice
• Testing, Testing: Steve G4GHO will bring along some test equipment, including a network analyser, ‘scopes and a signal generator
• Using bits in the box: Melvyn 2E0DNS will demo examples of how to make use of components from odd sources
• Kits and SMD: Dave G4HUP will bring along a selection of his kits (http://www.hupRF.com), plus tools for working with SMD (Surface Mount Devices). Dave will be happy to offer advice on a range of topics
• Digital Voice: Paul G7BHE offers help and advice on D-Star, DMR and Yaesu Fusion, including a D-Star and DMR demo.
• Icom 7300 & 4m: Thanks to Selim M0XTA for offering to bring along his Icom IC-7300. Selim can also help with advice on 4m, handy for his new weekly 4m net
• PC Data Connectivity: Paul M0CNL will show modified version of the Easy Digi interface board, handy for data modes as SSTV. Paul should have a limited number of kits available
• Construction: David M0HBV plans to construct a transistor and passive component tester
• Essex CW Club: Helping to promote and encourage the Morse mode
• Getting Started: Advice and leaflets from Essex Ham, the Raspberry Pi Zero playing the latest videos, details on the online Foundation training course, plus the event’s Wi-Fi
• Callsign badges: Get an engraved callsign badge while you wait
• Quiz: The CARS quiz, hosted by the re-elected CARS Chair Chris G0IPU

As always, members of CARS, Essex RAYNET, Essex Repeater Group, Essex CW Club and Essex Ham will be on hand to help with questions.
