The price of Werthers, how cardigans don't last like they used to, the price of pipe tobacco.

And PLL02A talks about me in morse on 40m so I can't earwig on him because the beeps and dits and dohs drive me crazy and I can never get my microreader set up in time, but nor can anyone else as he built it himself and it only puts out 1mW into a coathanger in his basement.

I like to make statements that include the word 'here'.
E.g.
The name here is Boabie.
The antenna here is a dip pole.
The radio here is a Yesoooo.
The location here is the UK.
Etc.

Not a lot - ham discussions are in general - boring.
Get on CB and have some fun - do that on ham radio and the old boys brigade will be disgusted - youll be on youtube and banned from all radio clubs. (except CB ones).

Depends a lot on your definition of "fun"!Mattylad wrote:Not a lot - ham discussions are in general - boring.

We, as in the "group of folks" I regularly chat to, don't exactly limit our "areas of conversation", its not all "amateur boring" radio based by any means, nor none threatening "nice" topics like gardening, illnesses, cardigans, and stamp collecting!
Controversial topics are not deemed "taboo", and as of yet we have never had a "Mr Angry Amateur from wherever", calling in with an "on air" comment of disgust, or a similar post on any radio based website, as to the "shocked me to the core" nature of any of our topics.
There's fun, and f'ing fun, knowing where to set the limit is the key.
Often you can discuss just about anything, literally, as long as every other word doesn't start with an "F"!
And I am NOT saying your version of "fun" does by the way!
Amateur radio is just the medium by which some licensed folks converse, it definitely doesn't have to be the main subject matter of any topics of conversation!
If at the end of the day you deem "amateur radio conversations" so boring, just don't listen, can't be simpler than that!

Must be regional, because over here everyone ends a sentence with "there"kr0ne wrote:I like to make statements that include the word 'here'.

OK there.
My name is xxx there.
You're 5/5 and a good signal there.
If they think they are posh, then they end sentences with "my friend" !

That sums up the Midlands relative newcomers, "there" being the added word of choice, so I guess it might be multi regional?WhiteNoisePoetry wrote:Must be regional, because over here everyone ends a sentence with "there"kr0ne wrote:I like to make statements that include the word 'here'.

Also "would be" is very commonly chucked in the mix, as in "The name would be Frank", I often can't help thinking "It would be Frank, but its actually Harry or whatever!"
