New Business Idea

Post by Ado99 »

Hi, I am looking at setting up a new business in selling radios o both Ham users and PMR users, and just looking for ideas and advice, if people on here do a similar thing.

Do you have a copy of your business plan that you could share?

Cheers

It's very hard competing with wholesalers, the big companies and the ebayers.

What's your plan?

I bought and sold wholesale radios in the early 80's, it was easy money then, you're up against dropshippers now and their margins are tight, so in my opinion you're better off staying clear of it, the PMR guys and girls have generally racked up 30+ years in the trade by now, so they have brand appeal, a new starter would struggle.

You either need half a million quids worth of low margin cheapo stuff in a warehouse, or half a million quids worth of high-end gear sitting around, both generating interest on a bank loan. If you buy and sell in ones and twos sub-£50 then you'll be making a couple of quid a time.

Good luck.

Ok many thanks, I havnt at got a business plan at the moment just in the idea phase, what I would aim to do is to offer 10-20% off to members of RAYNET and Volenteer Emergency Services and to members of certain amature radio groups.

Mate, they are the tightest of the tight, they want everything for nothing.

Do some research about cost of buying and minimum orders, then check out what they get sold for on eBay and Amazon, I think you'll find the margins very scary.

There may be more cash in selling day-glo tabbards and flashing lights... :)

Good luck with your venture. A free hi-vis jacket and/or tweed jacket with each purchase would be a good start though ;-)

There are a few companies trading as AM Communications.

Good luck with the venture, you're a braver man than me.

Not deliberately p***ing on your picnic, but with the intention of helping, firstly, you need a web presence. It would have been desirable to have a unique trading name as no one wins when there is confusion over who is who.
