Post by M5AKA »

The next Skills Night, hosted by the Chelmsford Amateur Radio Society Training Team, starts at 7pm on Monday, January 18. This free event is open to all.

The Skills Night is an informal monthly get-together in central Essex, where anyone with an interest in radio can come along, try something new, share ideas, get help and advice, and socialise with others interested in the hobby.

Here’s what’s in store for the November 2015 Skills Night:

• Construction: Antenna help, patch lead construction, and access to equipment, tools and soldering irons.
• CARS: Table for society membership, merchandise, training information and leaflets
• Radio Programming: Charlie M0PZT will be available to set up handhelds (esp. Baofeng and other Chinese rigs), Yaesu FT-60, VX-7, FT-817 & 857/897 (bring your power cable). Plus aerial adapters and programming cables
• DMR CodePlugs: With the new Regional TalkGroup changes there'll be the opportunity to have your TYT MD-380 checked and updated.
• Datamodes/Logging advice: Ham Radio Deluxe, JT65, WSPR and other software woes solved.
• Digital Voice: DMR and D-Star advice - handy for anyone taking their first steps into the world of digital voice
• Antennas and Antenna Modelling: Andy G7TKK returns with modelling software, and ideas.
• Essex CW Club: Helping to promote and encourage the Morse mode
• The Quiz: Chris G0IPU challenges you to answer some ham radio questions, just for fun
• Essex Ham: Getting Started Advice and leaflets, the new Raspberry Pi Zero, a new video highlighting 2015 amateur radio events, and some show and tell.
• Representatives from CARS, Essex RAYNET, Essex Repeater Group, Essex CW Club and Essex Ham will be on hand to help with questions

The activity list is subject to change and availability.

Venue: Danbury Village Hall, 2 Main Road, Danbury, Essex, CM3 4NQ - You can find a map and pictures of the hall here:
