BUSNET BACK OR IS IT ?

Post by ANCIENTMARINER » 15 Jan 2018, 19:42

Greetings anybody,

In WY area 177.625 came alive at 1500hrs Sat 13th Jan 2018 as a control channel for SY & WY Busnet again ? Two DigiData channels for the icket machine to Bus stop transponders also came alive. 178.45 and 178.65.
This CC channel was formerly at Todmorden but the sig strength is now up to S9 and suspect its been placed at Westgate Hill, Bradford to give better coverage.
Before you all get excited.....theres no FIRST,STAGECOACH or ARRIVA as they have shifted to GSM. Only peeps being seen are Yorkshire Tiger and Transdev Keighley. No voice heard yet but suspect these two diehards are just using the gprs component. Y/Tiger never used voice before whereas Transdev Keighley did. Will be watching and hoping.

One wonders if they removed all the radios and then refitted them again, does it look like they are using it for data or voice, not had a minute to tune a remote box in but will do.

It's as crap as before, but now with worse coverage. Not sure if the Leeds site is working or not, buses are registering onto Doncaster but not seen any voice. Woodhead in Sheffield has been broadcasting a blank carrier on 179.725 for a few weeks with nothing else happening.

The main issues with the system were/are.

- No inter site group call
- Poor inter site audio levels
- No voice priority over buses on group call (stuck PTT can wipe out a message)
- PTT footpedals being used that are too easily pressed by mistake or located in different places.
- Gooseneck mics are too long, very directional and can be moved easily by drivers so there is no way of getting the audio right.

The ACIS radio units were left in buses for the operators to get rid of, so a lot of the registrations on the system from companies other than Arriva are from equipment that was left switched on.

I can vouch for the PTT footpedels being in a crap place! I am forever knocking them :))
