Lincolnshire County Council Trunked Net

Post by lincs_radio » 26 Feb 2011, 16:39

For a good few months now i've been monitoring what seems to be a Trunked Network on Control Ch: 179.1250
Licenced to Lincolnshire County Council... (WTR:0269983)

Just... i've NEVER heard any comms on any of the frequency channels :?
Also, im not sure what kind of Trunked System it is, its not MPT-1327... ???
(altho i does sound alittle like mpt1327 just with a higher baud rate??)

A few weeks ago one of the channels fired-up, but no voice/data comms...
thats the only activity i've noticed.

Just wondered why the council have this system if they dont use it?

The TX is just outside of Grantham, on the mast next to GB3GR...

Any Idea's ??????

it could be used just for data to send jobs to electritions or joiners and the like or even for vehicle tracking

next time you see a council van with a man in, ask him if they use radios and what they use them for lol

Hi,

The net is used for RTPI at bus stops, currently in the Lincoln area with a proviso for Scunthorpe, Grimsby and Grantham areas. The data is as far as i understand a mixture of GPS and various modes similar to the bus stop info on the SY-WY Busnet.

Rgds,

Ahh, Excellent Stuff...
I did wonder if that was the kind of use (data), but you never really know unless you ask :)

Kind Regards,

No problem. I had been studying the busnet for a few years and the normal mpt1327 data is there on the controller freqs but when it comes to the interleaved data for the bus movements etc, then we are in wonderland.

Where in Lincs are u ?

Hi,

I think the system is non-trunked conventional channels with some kind of FFSK signalling and voting. Voice comms. seem very limited, possibly just to one small operator, although all buses fitted have a Tait T2000 radio and mic which interfaces with a rather ancient Data terminal.

As said, the system is purely for passing GPS data and Sign Stop info for Real Time Passenger Information.

One interesting development however is the seemingly recent addition of another site to the licence at Gainsborough. Nothing is on air yet and I can't really find the site on Google Earth as the grid ref puts it in an odd location.

It seems an odd place for a site as there are no masts around there and its at one of the lowest points in the area.

EDIT: Now found a commercial mast on Carr lane which is a candidate. Also seems to be a high building in as there's a Vodaphone 900 site listed as being 42m asl near the river.

On a related note whilst looking for info on the RTPI system, I stumbled upon this.

http://www.vebra.com/property/20191/20046455

It's a mast and land which used by LCC for the Gainsborough gritting channel. After no activity at all on their Low band channels this winter, I can only assume that lincs have ditched their radios - seems mad to me.

So i wonder if you guys can help me again...

178.1625 MHz - WTR:0820520 - TX @ Stenigot...

Any Idea's...?

I had a quick search round the interweb, and the closest i could match the sound to is the old NMT-450/900 control channels????

Cheers!

Hi, Each of Fleetcomm's three radio sites transmits this data on a separate frequency to the control channel. (Stenigot's control ch is currently 181.0250)

Not sure what they are planning to use it for. If you scan 186-192Mhz you will probably pick up the origin of this data on the input too. I believe it's from the companies mast at their office in Goole, and being beamed to each site on a YAGI.
