You can only pick up cordless, as opposed to mobile cellular, if your scanner can drop to 31 mHz, and there is a few but you can usually only here one side of the chat round about the 47 mHz area. These seem to be few and far between these days (well, they are in my town)
The eight 31's are, and you can hear both sides if you are within I think about 300 meters, I'm not sure how far from the base they can operate.

Baby monitor. What a joke. Scanners probably can pick baby monitors up but what a waste of money if you spent ages listening to a baby monitor.
I suppose that if you were baby sitting somebody that lives near by. You could go home and listen to their baby monitor on your scanner and if anything is wrong you just quickly dash over there.

I just mentioned the fact you could, didn't exactly rave on about the fact you can. I never listen in to them myself, it's a bit of the spectrum I forget exists.
The first time I heard one in use, the parents were being 'a bit over indulgent with each other' in their own room, whilst junior was having a kip. As for baby sitting from another house, unless you left a radio or something audible on in the background, you might find yourself listening to the wrong baby!
