Train Station Freqs

Post by liamcarbin »

Was at the station the other day and noticed platform staff using radios, was wondering if anyone knew the freqs in use at Stoke-on-Trent Station?

The bulk of railway stations use either 453.550 or 453.900. Some smaller stations use 446 mHz 8 channel radio's.

If its on one of the 453's you probably will as they are fed through repeaters. The 8 446 channels are 'must haves' for any scanner plus the 3 449 mHz UK General channels, as loads of people use them.

Hey Andrew,

Nothing heard on those freqs at the moment, also my scanner is strange. If I enter 446.00625 It will round it up/down does that mean I wont be able listen to that frequency?

Also what are the freqs for the general channels?

Thanks

Liam

Unfortunately, it appears that your scanner can't do the 6.25KHz steps required for the 8 PMR 446 channels. Not a great loss as my FT-8900 can't do them either, if your scanner can manage it just tune a little either side of the centre frequency and you should be okay.

A Southern Railway Limited station near here uses 455.65000:460.95000 MHz which is a bit unusual. Stations, as well as using the old national frequencies already mentioned tend to pop up just about anywhere in UHF.

The centre frequency your looking for is for example 446.00625MHz, if your scanner can't tune to that exact frequency, try 446.005MHz for example, etc. My GRE scanner can't tune to 446.00625, but can to 446.000 or 446.0125, so not much use for that. My FT-8900 can't tune to 446.00625 either, but can to 446.005 which is near enough.

I hope that makes sense...

Most scanners, if you tune in an exact frequency especially ones with so many digits after the decimal , they will automatically tune into the closest they can.

Yep, it's all about the tuning steps - mine is 12.5KHz steps on the GRE PSR-282.

I now have this freq, thanks to another member that sent me a copy of his CD with freqs on. I'm too far away too but when I visit my grandparents it is loud and clear. Only hear one side of the conversation though.
