Papa callsigns usually refer to either Paramedics or the Police.

Often these shopwatch/pubwatch schemes use different prefixes according to the user.

Standard users (shops) will use a designated prefix and number.
Security officers a different prefix (sierra?), PCSOs another (papa?) etc...

It seems to be random here in Stoke.

Some shops have just numbers (Four Two - McDonalds) Some have letters (CHARLIE 2 - PC World)

For the pubs and clubs its a bit more logical with it being the first two letters of the club/pubs name ( Lima India - Liquid)

PCSOs here in Stoke use Echo Oscar
Liam Carbin
Stoke-on-Trent

best way to work it out is to stick your bearcat in your jeans with a headphone on, then systematically stand outside each club with a replica firearm and a camo jacket on screaming "you're letting me in tonight aren't you mudderfookers!!!!"

you will shortly hear your scanner go "apeshit wild" and be able to work out which phonetic identifier goes with which pub/club/winebar

simples!!

a warning ...while this most certainly works, it can in some circumstances get you "brought down" by have-a-go heroes and bouncers and will almost certainly get you a day in court ..

If you do end up in a pursuit situation...ditch the replica and don't stand behind any windows in sillouhette as you could find yourself getting lobotomised" by the police marksmen

In fact bugger it ....just get the lists off here ,,,forget the whole thing ...sorry i spke

Every scheme has a different way of distributing its call signs. Usually the scheme operators make the decisions.

Some use the letters of the shop- River Island- Romeo India
Some use a letter(s) and/or a number(s)- Romeo 1 for instance.
Some use the actual name itself...

Tango Victor is probably the most common CCTV/Control call sign and is widely adopted throughout the UK. Coventry being the exception!

Police often use the call sign 'Uniform Papa' or their actual Police call sign.

The schemes that use letters and numbers are generally more concious of 'eaves droppers', it's much harder to work out what/who is talking this way. Hence the reason that Coventry use 'Papa XX'.

Coventry is a large system dealing with several city management functions. With the recent release of Motorola 'Linked Capacity Plus' (I.P digital trunking) It wont be long before they make the move over to digital.

Yes please , just getting back into it and it seems that the most activity is from within the ring road!

Interested in retail net as my wife often crops up on it!
