New to Scanning Please Help :(

Post by FR-100 » 12 Oct 2008, 16:24

Hi there,

Im fairly new to scanning and enjoying it i have found a few good frequencies but struggling to find some more. I have just brought a Discone antenna but doesnt seem to be helping alot can anyone give me any tips please?

I live on the north wales coast if anyone has any frequencies to hand would be appreciated. I was looking forward to hearing a few ships heading to Liverpool/Holyhead etc but i have only ever picked up the coastguard once on 156.8000

Other Freq i have are 453.9250- Shop Watch and 166.4625-Ambo

Thanks

Is it mainly shipping that interests you ?
Secondly what is your local topography like ? I'm guessing hills behind you would I be right ?
Thirdly do you live in a rural area or a town ? If you can give us a more accurate area we may be able to give you some frequencies to get started with.
So I passed this test that allows me to twiddle with knobs, push buttons & call my self an Advanced !!!!!!!

Ask for frequencies in this section of the group, not in the area meant for equipment etc. It will make it easier and quicker for the likes of myself who has data bases etc at my fingertips. I have nothing listed for your area for that frequency. Are there council employed life guards / beach patrols in Rhyl?

The coastal radio site will help you a lot with ship stuff.

Ok thanks for looking.

I will keep searching and maybe move my discone outside?

If anyone else can give any tips that would be great :)
