Helicopter ZJ237

Post by Mikel » 19 Jan 2016, 13:20

Very strong Polycon transmission just heard on 417.5750 Mhz. Talking to Cardiff control and crew conversation taking place.

Planefinder seemed to identify as ZJ237, which appears to be a Bell Griffin HT.1, of the Defence Helicopter Flying School, based at RAF Shawbury.

Seems to be circling around the Cheltenham, Gloucester area at present.

Nice catch Mikel ! :-)

Uniden close call ?

I sometimes hear that freq near Salisbury Plain , but not (yet) at home

When the Plain is active its worth listening to the VHF low band FAC channels as there have been a few transports overflying the gwent levels booming in over recent weeks.

Regards

BB

Not close call on this occasion BB, Although I do get regular close call hits from aircraft, they have always been from civil aircraft on vhf so far.

Decided to load up all the main Polycon frequencies into the Uniden 3500 a while back. Have been getting regular transmissions on 419.1125, which I believe are the new SAR helicopters out of St Athan.

First occasion that I have heard anything on 417.5750 Mhz.

Proves that its worth listening to these channels. Antenna, nothing special, just a set top Diamond RH-770.

Yes of course, these are what I have in the scanner at the moment. Simply found them on various radio sites including this one (all FM):

419.1125 Mhz
417.3750 Mhz
417.5250 Mhz
417.5750 Mhz
449.5375 Mhz
449.5875 Mhz
449.6875 Mhz

Most active freq around here so far is 419.1125, which I believe are AW-192 rescue helicopters out of St Athan.

Thanks to Mikel and thelad for posting these.

The only one I have heard was 449.5375 (as per your list), used by a Royal Navy SAR Sea King at Dawlish Air Show last year.
