Cardiff Traffic Wardens....

Post by welshevo »

.....so i was under the impression that the traffic wardens in Cardiff were issued with Sepura SRH tetra terminals? so they could keep in contact with South wales police? but.... i noticed the other day a traffic warden with a Motorola DP 4800? motrbo? radio? this was located on the Klick fast on his jacket where the Sepura normally would be? so are these handhelds capable of Tetra or are they now going DMR TRBO? very strange! ...no doubt somebody will know something?

I thought traffic wardens came under local council now, not the police so I would guess they would use whatever the local council radio system is rather than police Tetra network... but I may be wrong.

generally traffic warden DMR systems are quite easy to spot

lots of data in both slots 1 & 2, minimal voice in slot 1.

if you can find a strong DMR system in the city centre where the carrier is almost always in traffic
(i.e. long bursts of data, not the "one second on 3 seconds off" from a capacity plus system) share it here
and I'll try and get it analysed over a week or so

found them! took a bit of looking but their easy to profile as I said in my previous post

453.7375 , DMR , voice , all the ones , data on slot 2

but I think either I have a coverage problem to their repeater or their using privacy

Are they traffic wardens or parking attendants?

Traffic wardens are popo, so may be on Airwave, but parking attendants are not... ;)

I looked them up on the WTR and it describes them as "parking enforcement"

quick update on this ...either they have gone cap+ , stopped reporting locations with LRRP and changed colour code

or they have moved to a new channel ??

Very odd

Ah!

it seems they have moved to a DMR CBS - presumably as it is cheaper and they don't have to maintain it.

However they're only making private calls now and the CBS has RAS enabled so you need DSD / DSDplus to hear them.

CBS? whats a CBS or am i being stupid! hahaha im sure my brother has the details of the traffic wardens and they didn't use private calls .. infact we were monitoring in the car one night using DSD+ and it was Group call and they keyed up and we could see them on cathays terrace in Cardiff chatting on the Motorotrbo radios.... sorry for the spanner in the works :D

CBS

C ommunity
B ase
S tation

A company in cardiff area owns about 4 repeaters across 2 or more sites , & "rents out" airtime
to customers - one of which is cardiff traffic enforcement

yes they do have an established talkgroup, possibly two of them in fact, but mainly (90%) they talk between themselves using private calls.
even on a hacked firmware TYT you will not hear the P-calls as the CBS uses RAS, its DSD/DSD+ or a radio programmed with the RAS code.

however, the repeater owner also leases to other customers who share the CBS. their traffic is separated by
talkgroup & timeslot.

p.s. what spanner ? :-)
