SSB

Post by Shodi »

Hi folks
Looking for some help and advice again, As some of you may know I am setting up again after a long break from CB radio. However this time round I'am operating a multiband and am not too familiar with SSB operations.

I always seem to have high static levels around the 27.555mhz, between 5 and 7 on sig meter, Is this normal?

Yesterday 06/01/06 there was alot of DX activity coming from France, Italy and even the USA and as yet I am making no effort to contact due to having insufficient power supply running Omegaforce S45 (only 3a PSU), But although I could here these operators some even quite clear they were all barely above the static levels?

Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. :D

Magnum Omegaforce S45
Antron 99

Oh and does anyone know of any other active or interesting areas on the CB bands 26-30mhz

You do much with amateur radio shodi. if not i expect the ssb side and 28mhz-30mhz part would be pretty useless, That is if your not into amateur radio

I wouldn't go getting too upset about using 10m. Even the amateurs aren't using it!

It's no better than 11m at the moment.

If you wanna cut the static down matey i suggest changing ya ariel go horizontal with a 3 ele beam that way you can follow the sun track and work the stuff as it lights up being directional keeps alot of rubbish out. Also get yaself a decent power supply not having enough power makes the modulation terrible plus you may end up doing damage dont be temped to ssb with a 3amp power supply

i just managed 105miles on the flat in ssb at the weekend, which is my best so far
i was in north wales and my mate was at a high spot in oldham, we both had to keep turning the power down cos of RF feedback but we still had 100% copy even down to 10 watts

we got "chased" up the band by very strong Spanish skip, and ended up on 27875
