Imax 2000 V's dipole

I hope someone can shed some light on this one. Ok so I got an Imax 2000 at the end of my garden about 10 feet off the ground and fed with RG213. It's been there for years and I have worked the world on it. Anyway recently I connected my old inverted V dipole in the attic back up, This is fed with RG8 coax with an RF choke. 11M was open and I got straight into Germany with a 5-9 report on the dipole running about 70-80 watts with a Stalker 9. I switched over to the Imax 2000 with my Yaesu FT757GX2 and he could not hear me at all, So I tried my SS360FM with the Imax but not a sausage

What type of antenna was the op using that you spoke to ?

I have an Imax at 28ft up on t and k brackets and a 1/4 wave homebrew 15mm copper pipe dipole,that is in a horizontal position 30 ft up suspended from the attic beams with fishing line.

I can't answer your question NightProwler as I am in the same situation here,but I have had decent results with the horizontal c.pipe dipole so far,both for local and dx,when compared to the performance of my Imax.

Maybe one antenna was just polarised better,or it was just in a better position...............who knows.

Angle of radiation would be my guess, Antennas can do strange & bizzare things, And 80 watts is naughty, Very very naughty

prop works in funny ways it happend to me many years ago with an a99 and dipole
A99 40 ft+ off the ground and i strapped the dipole to the stairs inside the house , the top section of dipole was about 6 ft lower than the a99 (the house is 3 flights of stairs ) , and 15 ft east wards from it
Anyway i had the dipole up and running and heard anna from gibralter signal was 5/7 to/5/9 had a good chat then went over to A99 not a peep both ways put dipole back on there she was did it about 4 times not a sausage on the a99
FUNNY THING is 3 weeks later i worked anna on the A99 5/9
if i could i would have about 8 ariels up in all forms of directions, hights and angles

How many watts were coming out of the Yaesu and the 360 and was he using a horizontally-polarised beam perchance (not as good for receiving vertically-polarised signals from the Imax)?

The other op was using a gainmaster and 50 watts. My Yaesu should be about 100 watts SSB and on the 360FM I was using about 120 watts. To be honest I prefer using the dipole because I get satifaction that I built it and did not buy it and I like the idea that no one can see my antennas, Stealth mode As I never talk to anyone local then I might take the imax down and just stick to dipoles for DX.

Spoke to 14GG38 earlier today on ssb and he said the c.pipe dipole was far better than my Imax,but he was using a beam.

A couple of years back I spoke to a station in Germany on Mids FM.

He was hitting me S9, whilst running 2 watts into a Sirio Boomerang.

When conditions are right you can get good contacts on just about anything.
