Oxfordshire SSB CB Net Thursdays 8:00pm onwards

Post by 26TM1009 »

Are there any Oxfordshire based CB’ers interested in joining in with the regular Southern and South Coast SSB net?

It’s run by the Charlie Tango group and usually takes place each Thursday evening from about 8pm onwards on 27.395 USB.

Would be great to hear a few more locals on there.

Cheers and 73’s.

Hi. I often join this net. I am working home base so am a bit limited on stations I can work, but it is sometimes surprising. One of our biggest challenges against working the Southern net is the Ridgeway in the way, but I do regularly work Basingstoke and occasionally Brighton direction. I wasn't around last week, due to antenna damage in the wind (now repaired). I can't really go out on the hills at the moment, due to car in poor health. I think I have spoken to you before, this is Chris near Abingdon. I am also quite keen to get a regular local net going if you are interested.

Hi Chris,

How’s it going? Yes we spoke a few times last year but I have been off the air for a while as I sold my CRT, but am now back on with a 360FM I recently picked up.

Would be good to get a local SSB net on the mids going - pass the word around if you can.

Cheers and catch you on the bands soon.

SSB on mid - band, exactly what I was thinking of. Not sure how often you go on the radio? I was thinking of a general meet up channel and people can come and go dependent on what they are doing, or whether there are bigger nets running. I know a couple of people in the area who would be interested. I'm currently on the South Coast net, mainly ear wigging. I think you were on earlier but we missed each other. Do jump in again if you read this message before the net is over, I will be listening for the duration.

Hi Chris,

I was jumping into the net in between washing up and getting our toddler ready for bed so juggling lots of things at the same time!

I can mostly get on between 8pm and 10pm in the evening and a bit later at the weekend but have been really busy with things in general recently.

Glad you got your Gainmaster sorted - my Sirio Boomerang had a close encounter with a strong gust of wind over the winter and is halfway between vertical and horizontal but will get it sorted soon.

Did my audio sound OK last night? Neil said it sounded a bit off but maybe I had the mic gain too high. It’s an old Superstar 360FM I picked up from eBay. I have just got it back from Black Spirit in Wales who has fixed it up and added the UK40 for me.

Cheers

I didn't hear you at that point. I did nip for a shower at one point so probably missed you. How about 34 mid USB for general meet up from 8ish? I can spread the word around. The Gainmaster broke at the start of the second section as is common. I got a new section from Knights CB, but the very bottom section with the coil has also started to split. I reinforced it with some PVC pipe, cut and clamped with jubilee clips so hopefully will be OK for a while. People slag these antennas off, but I would get another one, if anything because it is more inconspicuous than anything with a load of radials sticking out and it performs superbly.

^^ Imax 2000 (I've had 827/ SGM) works ok at my location Morgz84,what antenna does the S.G.M. work superbly against.....or what did it replace ? Thanks in advance ^^

Well done on fixing it, sure it’s a great antenna. I would love to be able to put something like that here but just not possible - I would go for the Sirio Vector 4000 (aka Avanti Sigma IV) if I could get away with it, that antenna’s a beast with lots of gain.

34 USB on the mids from 8pm is good for me - let me know when are next on and I will give you a shout.

Cheers

I would say that it at least equals the performance of a Vector 4000 I had up at one point. I got rid of the Vector due to being awkward to put up where my mast is located. At least the performance of a Vector 4000, but better looking. And I'm not just being a tart, it's quite important that it does not offend the eyes of the landlord, or whiney neighbours.

^^ The V 4000 would have been a good enough comparison to put the Sgm up against Morgz84,cheers. ^^
