Decent SO239 Magmount
My bog standard Moonraker turbo magmount is suddenly giving unusable high SWR. I suspect it has become waterlogged as did it's predecessor. The only ones I can find on Ebay seem to be more of the same fayre. Can anybody recommend a decent waterproof magmount. I don't want to keep having this issue. Many thanks.

Re: Decent SO239 Magmount
If you dont want "this issue" Morgz84 ? = Sirio 145 single magmount base,or you can go for a triple magmount base, but the 145 will still be on your car at 70 mph (easy a100+ morelike if using a Sirio mobile antenna) and will give you years of not getting water ingress, but only if you look after it properly
Plenty are talking worldwide on 27.555 usb,
Some are too far up their own @rse to admit it,
Many happen to know otherwise dx-ing test free,
Showing a complete lack of respect for the law.

Go for the Sirio 165 mag-mount if you're into green-laning or rallying The extra 20mm may help matters.

Hi Simon. This is Chris near Abingdon. Long time no copy. I think I will definitely try the Sirio 145. These Thunderpole / Moonraker turbo things seem to be garbage.

Re: Decent SO239 Magmount
Hello there Chris, yes i don't really get on air much now. I have given up on the hom3ebase installation so only really get on air occasionally as a static mobile.
The Sirio Mag Pl-145 is really good, if it will hold a 4000HP I am sure it will hold a modulator.
Moonraker stuff was always garbage and the newer stuff is no exception.

Re: Decent SO239 Magmount
The Sirios are £29 incl. P&P. Perhaps see if anyone's got a second-hand one, or maybe an aerial for sale on ebay that's got one on.
There's an alternative for £15 posted here but I don't know what the strength of the magnet's like compared to the Sirio's:
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre ... 3167819660
I can roughly compare the strength of a large "Turbo" magnet and a Sirio 145 as I have both. Just let me know and I'll sort them out and give them a quick pull/tilt test.

Re: Decent SO239 Magmount
I'm actually tempted to buy the whole Sirio 145 antenna. It seems so have good write ups and is similar to the K40 I once had, but at a sensible price. I don't get too good an SWR with the Modulator, and tend to run it through a tuner. I only ended up with the Modulator as it was randomly given to me by a neighbour who used to be into CB back in the day. I started using the Modulator after my K40 fell to bits and I didn't have the cash to replace it at the time. Not to say it it's a bad antenna, I've had many good copies on it, although I tend to put up a Firestik when I am static mobile.

Re: Decent SO239 Magmount
I've got the CB-Line mil145 branded version of the Sirio mil145 aerial, on a Sirio 145 mag. It seems pretty good for the size. I would like a 6ft Sirio, but no one in the UK stocks the particular one I want.
The Modulators do tend to need larger magnets as they're longer, with a longer coil and a long, floppy non-tapered heavy whip if it's an original one. It means that the centre of gravity is a lot higher, therefore requiring more magnetic force to keep it planted firmly, especially if green-laning, driving down country lanes fast, or a bit of council estate rallying
I lost both my base-loaded and twin-loaded Modulators off my Mk1 Escort, the base-loaded one swung off the roof and down the side of it, making a lovely arc-shaped scratch in the paintwork which had to be T-cut out!
I had the taller, twin-loaded one on the boot with a 7" mag' but still managed to knock that over too, so I changed to a Tagra t40 (almost identical to a K40, but with a much better locking system). Driving like a loon doesn't help matters when you're 17
I wanted to fit the t40 to my Espace IV a couple of years ago, but discovered the boot hatch is mostly fibreglass, so it wouldn't clamp on well and would have been a pain to earth it to the metalwork.

Re: Decent SO239 Magmount
I have never had any issues with my Modulator, I SWRed it on one car when I first got it and it has been swapped between several vehicles with no adjustment needed.morgz84 wrote: ↑16 Feb 2019, 22:44 I'm actually tempted to buy the whole Sirio 145 antenna. Something like a Sirio HP4000 should easily outperform a K40
