Recommendations for a hefty power supply
I have a Manson EP-925 30A linear PSU here, however, there are numerous horror stories about these overvolting and blowing gear connected to it if stressed slightly.
I wouldn't trust it if drawing more than about 15 Amps, which brings me to the following question;
Can anybody please recommend a sturdy PSU capable of running a Zetagi B550? I think it draws around 25A.
There's a plethora of power supplies around, but there's very little around in terms of reviews.
My budget is around £150.

Build your own from surplus server power supplies. High current/quality, low price. Just need to put in a little effort.

I use a Mass 50 amp to run my kl 405, I did have the b550p and it ran them a treat, I also use a Ranger 2970n2 works well with radio as well, it is a switch mode type but suffer no interference from it, I hope this helps.

I use a 50 amp maas sps 50 psu running at 50%.
Plenty are talking worldwide on 27.555 usb,
Some are too far up their own @rse to admit it,
Many happen to know otherwise dx-ing test free,
Showing a complete lack of respect for the law.

You could use an ark welder, that would give you 180A output.

I use a HP DPS-1200FB converted server supply. Easily provides 80A + at 13.5 volts (after modding)
There's a decent thread here on converted server power supplies.
They were available for buttons until the bit-coin mining brigade started using them. Still available but they fetch a bit more these days.

Re: Recommendations for a hefty power supply
i built a supply to run a b550 about 30 years ago using a vintage arc welder transformer with some secondary windings removed to get about 17v,
it had single copper windings & plenty of iron in the core not multi tapped aluminium like they use nowadays,
of all the cb/ham supplies i have used, astron rs50 while far from perfect would be my choice,
they are crowbar protected & fairly stable under load, fit a soft start thermistor & you won't pop rectifier diodes or trip your house fuses at switch on, the other common cb/ham supplies are mostly unprotected ****,
sure you can get MUCH better quality heavier more expensive more load stable supplies but most of those don't like rf up em,
a b550 at full power pulls a lot more than 25a.
