Cobra 148 GTL-DX mk1 manual

Post by cb4ever104 »

Just a question . Did the mk1 come with a "DX" user manual , or a 148 GTL one ?

This one's for sale on Ebay .

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/132639118042

I know the box shows a picture of the 148 GTL , but I was just wondering if any of the mk1's came with the GTL manual as well ?

Not 100% sure of the manual Sammy. But I'd have thought the radio would have been supplied with the appropriate paperwork even if they did skimp on redesigning the box.

Looking at the mic, I thought the MK1's came with a moulded on plastic plug as standard and the MK2's were issued with the regular metal plugs?

Nice though it is it maybe this is a thrown together lot. It's a very late MK1so you'd think they'd have got the manual sorted.

I wonder if the radio and box have matching serial numbers...
Never, ever, ever....bloody anything ever!

Far too many radio's to list here. But I do own a legal one...

Yeah . The reason why I asked is that I picked up both a mk1 and mk2 from the same guy in Madrid a few months back , and he gave me a 148 GTL manual as well . Both radios looked stock . I wasn't that bothered as I didn't have a manual for my 148 GTL anyway :)

It just seems too much of a coincidence .

Came with a GTL manual, my MK1 was supplied with one too.
The microphone should have a moulded plug on it, the power lead should have a cream plug
The bracket is brand new etc.

I think it's been made up to look like that and isn't as original as the BS ad states.
Very nice but just don't believe it's all original I'd bet the front is off a mk2 also.

My late MK1 came with a non moulded microphone plug and my power lead was not cream. It was in the same serial number range as that one, so they may well have changed by that time. Can't be 100% sure though.

You get the impression that Dynascan didn't know what the finished version of the radio was going to look like, and they just decided to use the same GTL box and manual and change the letters on the box.

That's a lo-mid-hi set up then by the sounds of it. I don't think too much is involved to change it to mid-hi-hihi apart from a new crystal/s and maybe a tune-up etc. Nick (Black Spirit), Sammy and others will let you know shortly I'm sure.

That's the basic LO , MID and HI version you have . The HI band is 27.415 to 27.855 , which takes you up to channel 26 27/81 FM as you say . The radio can be easily modified (diodes) to add the H-HI band . Contact Mr Spirit for more info.
