dipole for 27.555 whats best ??? 1/2 wave or 1/4 wave
Going to have a go to build a wire dipole for use on 27.555 usb. Now what is best 1/2 wave=17 ft each side or 1/4 wave = 8 1/2 ft each side ???

A dipole is overall length a 1/2 wave so you would go for each side being a 1/4 wave.

The full wave dipole would be very high impedance if fed from the centre, it could be done if you feed with balanced line, or use a matching transformer, but best stick with the 1/4 wave either side if fed with co-ax for a single band antenna, look to get it at least 5 metres above the ground.

They'll both be crap compared to your Imax 2000 at a similar height.

Circa 1dBd over a dipole is nothing compared to man made noise cancelling of horizontal antenna.
Imax is crap antenna anyway.
Some good reading about Imax2000: https://www.w8ji.com/end-fed_vertical.htm#IMAX

Thanks Admiral think i will stick to my IMAX 2000 and save myself a lot of work ,I wondered if by using a dipole i could cut some of the heavy background noise as i get a lot of living in the middle of town surrounded by very tall buildings all round, never mind.

I loved my imax up on the chimney, worked really well, soot from having the woodburner lit blocked the drain hole and it filled up

I do just fine on my crap iMax thanks, works well for me and suits my QTH.
CH25, you're entitled to an opinion, but you always seem so negative and closed minded. Everyone's own Radio situation is different and different things will work for them, it's all trial and error. In all honesty, you can come across as a bit of an asshole at times, perhaps you need to work on that if you're going to continue to contribute to this forum. It's not WHAT you say, it's more HOW you say it.

Nah, just some radio fan with some experience.NightProwler wrote:Yes he does like to slag off everything and think he is superior to everyone else, Just another troll. Stick with the Imax, Excellent antennas
I won't convince you, but I had Imax, A99, Shakespeare big stick along with nice aluminium antenna on the switch for a long time.
Difference is easy to notice. Try yourself.
