I didn't expect to get back into CB radio so I threw all my mags out about 15 years ago .

I used to buy things locally in Glasgow , or via magazine mail order/postal order . I must have given Truck King a few bob back in the day .

A google image search for "cb radio magazines" comes up with quite a lot!

Can't help with scans sorry. As for buying stuff back then when CB was made legal in the UK it was from the many local CB shops, or high street places like Dixon's and Argos, buying from (or trading with) another CB'er. Even the mail order home catalogue companies sold CB's and some accessories. No online internet buying available back then, and good old cash was the preferred way of paying for your gear.

Does anyone have copies of 'On the side' or 'Breaker on the side' mag scanned? I've still got the ones I bought but I'm missing quite a few as it was always hit and miss as to whether our newsagent would have stock back in the day.
my friend grafter, seems like you are using a very offensive tone in the reply.

I've nothing scanned sorry, as I much prefer the weird olde-worlde paper magazine smell of the real deal :) I've only got about a dozen mag's anyway though.

Where I lived in Birmingham in '81, about 6 shops opened up locally selling CB's as a side-line in amongst their usual goods. 2 of them kept going for a few years, especially "Square Wheels" in Rednal near the Lickey Hills. That predominantly sold CB and Ham gear anyway.

As said above, Kays and Grattons catalogues sold Binatone, Fidelity and Murphy CB's and possibly Argos sold one or two too.
Comet sold a few including Amstrads and Dixons sold their Harriers etc.
I bought my beloved (and still owned) Fidelity Homebase from "Makro" wholesalers, who I believe are still going.

As for the second-hand market, rigs were being sold every 5 minutes on the breaking channel even though it was illegal to do so. People also very carefully advertised their AM and SSB wares, but usually only to people they knew because of "Buzby" (BT) who looked after the airwaves back then...or at least tried to!

Nice one.

I had one of those Audioline graphic equalisers pictured in my Mk1 Escort before I upgraded to a Saisho one that lit up like a Christmas tree!
