How are they 'spoiling it' ? By spending their money ? If you were a seller you'd be happy, and as a buyer it's up-to-you what you spend. I think it's down to 'the market' to decide the prices, and in many ways E-bay has at least given a more truthful value to our radios. Before E-bay you might be lucky to get a tenner for a CB in the local paper, or Exchange & Mart (remember that?) because the hobby had thinned out, and you couldn't reach the number of prospective buyers. Now at least E-bay has reined in the profiteering 'specialist' shop prices, and given Joe Public a chance to sell or buy their radios for a "fair" price. I can't see that having millions of members bidding to buy or sell has 'spoiled' anything - the car boot "give ya a fiver" days are long gone, thank goodness. At least if I'm selling my equipment I have a good chance of getting a fair return off it, and when I see an item I fancy - I'm in with the same chance as anybody else. Bid wisely and Caveat Emptor. What your meant to have... you'll get. Karma has a way of levelling all of us.

Totally agree with you on that one UB !

And nice one Paul! Having started this thread off doubting this Jentec I can still see exactly where you're coming from mate........and compared to the £215 I just paid for a Superstar 2000, £410 looks fairly reasonable for anyone able to sort any issues that it might have. Price isn't really the issue if you WANT something bad enough! :D

Well said there bob........................

I didnt buy this radio to show off with or to up set any one i just wanted some think different and all so as i put in an earlier post i wanted to know how the vfo in it worked may be make some of my own Vfo control unden radio's and all so being a ham operator this radio will work up on 10 meters were i am most of the time so it's not just a cb radio.
All so John Nugent wasnt a rig butcher and John Nugent made his contribution to CB and Amateur Radio so this mod wasnt worth missing out on in my eye's i know by to days standards the radio is dated with this mod but there is load's of you that still run Cobra 148's and the Superstar 360 and there still geting moded to day.

Totally agree Paul. I came really close to buying one of those £600 Jentecs CobWorkshop were selling last year, but by a very narrow margin my Fireblade won with a set of £2000 Ohlins Forks. I'm sure I will add a Jentec to the collection sooner or later. Did think about this one, but spalshed out enough recently on those 805b's and 1005's from Romania etc, plus I'm not up to repair work if I'm honest, so it would have mean't farming it out at cost!

Thanks there Tomcat i did start collecting radios myself some time ago but with moveing house's a few time's they was geting damaged as well as being told to pull my 827 down all the time so i ended up selling it all off as you do and i was going to give up with it all but then i passed my ham test so i started back up in ham radio and started collecting ham radio's but i soon got bored of this so ive sold a load of that back on and ive limited myself to 8 hf radio's and 5 10 meter radio's i love useing the hf band's and i do use them but i do miss a lot of the CBer's out there and some of the radio's that i used like the Superstar 2000 you have which is my all time my favorite radio as well as the good old jumbo MK1's dont ask me why i love moding them up geting the audio to a tea..............................

In that link there are pictures of grinding going on, and generally of a MkV being built. I wonder if choppedupwhoreslopz are turning more radios into MkVs? They claim to have all the parts, so I don't see why they wouldn't. With the prices they're making I don't think they could resist the temptation.

I did see this my self and all so they are not that good at there job as one of the pic's show's you them grinding a way at the front plate when it was still attached to the radio.

It's just a pet hate that ive got about do silly thing's Otter     A other one is why dont people remove the the plastic front's off radio's before doing any soldering up the front of radio's it so easy to remove the front so they dont mealt a way at the front and burn away the fronts.

Thanks.....................

Well i got it to day and all is looking well it just need's an final fitting as there's is no RF output but thats not a problem.
I would say it has been in a loft as it has that smell of dampness to it.
All so it's got a bit of bubbling to the bezal and the copper coating under the chrome has started to go green as they do when they have been siting about in damp place.

So will have to see if C work's do a full clean up kit for it..................

They definitely do new fascias for them. Not sure if they're cut to fit the original 148 type bezel or the newer 3900 type. Both Cobshops and Knights do the cases, although somewhere on the forum is a link to a place which is doing good quality chrome cases for less than the cost of the regular black ones. Worth a thought :D

New cases. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/COBRA-SUPERSTAR-T ... 0542010312
New Bezel (3900 style). http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SUPERSTAR-COBRA-G ... 0201524509
New MKV faceplate. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/JENTEC-COBSCAN-CO ... 0282989213

Get some pics up too. Can't wait to see :D

edit. The new MKV faceplate is cut to fit the original Cobra/360 bezel. Hopefully you will have a spare somewhere.
