Does anyone know if it is possible to listen to war ship frequencies and does anyone have a list of frequencies for them?

They monitor marine channel 16 like all other ships and if you are in the right place you might ocasionally hear routine traffic about things like coming in to port.

Radio trolls in the Persian Gulf

Acording to a few websites on rare ocasions there is unencrypted traffic from ships in the persian gulf off the coast of Iraq on the old Fleetcom/UFO military satellites. You need a dish or a yagi with a clear view of the sky in the right direction and a low noise narrowband preamp at the antenna end of the coax to pick up fleetcom properly.
The main users of fleetcom these days seems to be pirate users in south america talking portugese. I suppose that when you need communications from the middle of the jungle, there is no mobile phone coverage, no enforcement of radio laws and the US military provides some handy satellites that you can access with equipment you can fit in a backpack then they are going to use it.
Eastern european people seem to use it ocasionally to talk home from south america (and stockwell, south London...)
