Wind Turbines

Post by mattltm »

Does anyone know what communications they are using on the wind farms located off Thanet?

I never hear any activity on the normal marine channels so I assume they have a business licence?

I'm guessing that they will issuing work orders, chatter between the rope access teams, guard boats and ordering the kettle to be put on.

I can see one of the large turbine fields from my window so it would be nice to know what goes on out there!

They'll be using none-marine frequencies, except for their vessels, so who knows matie. Could even be digital comms.

When you say "normal marine channels" are you including the private channels 29 to 59(ish) and 89 to 119(ish)?
If not, I'd check those too.

157.45 – 158.95(ish) & 162.05 – 163.55(ish)
There can be land mobile 12.5k freqs in those bands too, but probably not on the coast.

And try the WTR if you can get it to work :-)

Checked all marine channels including private, SRBR frequencies and tried the WTR with no luck...

This might be it, if right location (half way to Felixstowe):

http://spectruminfo.ofcom.org.uk/spectr ... %20licence

The frequencies suggest these are TETRA transmissions.
You'll be able to detect the base signals (454 band) if you kill the squelch.

Or this one (half way to Foulness)
