I wonder if any one can help i have a set of baofeng 888s radios i have just managed to reprogramme them to the licence free pmr channels but i read some where these are not allowed to be used on the pmr 446 channels i have progarmmed them to the 16 channels

Also have heard some one calling them selves wylie cyote shouting for road runner on channel 1 or frequency 446.00625 ctcs97.4 near kirkintilloch chatter was on about follwoing some one down the high street and you head him off and we can capture him

Technically the 888s are not permitted for use on the PMR446 system in the UK, even if you screw the power down to half a watt.

But it's between you and your conscience as the chances of being collared are quite slim.

Yes - but other things too - they should have an integral antenna - the idea being people cannot then take off the rubber one and connect a better and higher one. Just not what that band is designated for. Short range - radio to radio, no license.

Looks big in the photo, but will be a dinky little thing when it shows up in an envelope. It will get rid of the faraday cage effect of a handie in a car, but won't perform any better than if you lent out of the window using the standard rubber duck.

Have to say 100% agrea to the above just was to polite to say so myself !!
see how you get on and if its not as good as you are looking for I am sure some off the guys will advise you what to go for that works well on 70cms and would suit 446mhz !!

What sort of external mag mount ariel works well with 446mhz

Most of the maniacs serious 446 people who use off the shelf stuff will start with 70cms antennas.
