I have been trying to build up my list of frequencies and was planning on searching below 88Mhz. Aside from Amateur bands is there anything still in use today in the bands below 88Mhz? Like councils, fire, binmen etc?
I have been running a search all evening but not a thing so far.
Any info appreciated.

You could perhaps try a search on the Ofcom database. It does get a bit funny sometimes in NI as the NGR geographical references used get screwed up West of the Irish Sea

Re: Anything below 88Mhz?
hi there
i pick up signals most days from this- 86.975
seems to be some sort of government dept like d.o.e or waterboard. base and mobile vans/cars
im in Coleraine area but they talk about areas as far away as strabane.
Might be worth a try monitoring it wherever your at mate..

Re: Anything below 88Mhz?
Aside from what you'll find it the WTR, there are 5 freqs available to 'UK simple' licence holders, though in practice these seem little used compared to higher 'Simple UK' freqs.
77.68750
86.33750
86.35000
86.36250
86.37500
There are also some JFMG freqs, though I haven't heard anything on these for years.
JFMG have taken the list off their site for updating, so this list may not be complete, and things might have changed anyway:
67.76875
67.79375
67.80625
67.83125
69.16250
69.17500
74.68125
75.26250
76.80625
78.18375
78.18750
78.52500
82.65625
82.68125
86.66875
86.80625
86.81875
86.83125
86.84375
RAC Motorsports {UK wide} — if you have a race circuit nearby, otherwise sweet FA
81.57500
82.68750 / 69.1875
The whole band below 88 is little used, apparently because businesses don't like the tall aerials needed on vehicles, prefering to use VHF Mid/High or UHF.
I can't help think the ITU/WRC should assign something to the band worldwide that doesn't have a problem with tall aerials, like ships & boats (and thus relocate VHF Marine from 156MHz freeing that up for land mobile). Not a small task to achieve that though!
Did you know that the band 83.5 to 84 although assigned to 'emergency services' has apparently not been used since the Police & Fire moved from band 2 (97.9-102MHz) in the 1980s? And OFCOM tell us they are short of frequencies…

Re: Anything below 88Mhz?
hi mate
was looking on the ofcom spectrum info yesterday, theres a load of frequencies in the 77-88 band for the d.o.e and rivers agency listed for northern ireland.
would be worth listing them and trying some out.
