446.540mhz

Post by The Pea Launcher »

I'm located in Stockport and this frequency appears to be an uplink of some kind for a local radio station.
Perhaps its either Radio Manchester or Revolution Radio, worth a check out let me know if you can hear it.
Received it on my Baofeng and on my big scanner very strong signal.

Didn't post.
Then it posted twice.
Now I can't delete the other one!

The band 446.425 to 447.50625 is allocated to PMSE.
Sadly most of the info about this has now gone behind a logon requirement on the OFCOM website.
So much for openness {bnghd}

Found this a few months back just didn't post it. Very strong in Trafford also. Never heard setting up just a relay of 96.2 which is weak over there as its a local station to Oldham... They get out better on UHF lol

These links can be in several bands, 48-52MHz, 199.7MHz, 440-790MHz, and 1.5GHz.
440 - 470 MHz
Once you log in with your license details, OFCOM present you with an application form which wants your equipment details in advance, if you already have it available, and then they allocate you a channel. In this case it's interesting as the power is usually quite low.
OFCOM say
Due to the complex pattern of assignments already made in these bands, a bandplan is not available. Users will be advised of possible frequencies upon application.

Available at 12k5, 25k0 and 50k0 bandwidths. The fees are set in multiples of 48hrs.
They're supposed to be links, although there is another possibility - the quality of that clip posted on youtube is band limited - as in comms quality, so it's possible it's being used as talkback for an OB? I don't know if they do this, but on an OB you want an analogue feed to the OB so they can use it for cueing purposes, and knowing when they're off-air. Quality is unimportant. They could simply have forgotten to turn it off! The fact so many can hear it means it's an omni signal, or just that everyone is one the bearing of the link which is unlikely. Talkback feeds also come under PMSE. If you don't have a log in you can't access much of the information, and to be honest, apart from booking frequencies when you need more, it's not that interesting - as much is manually coordinated by real people on receipt of a completed form in word format. Your license type also allows users to only do certain things - so while I can book extra radio mic frequencies, I can't book a link, and I believe that people who hire out radio systems (like me) don't get access to people with fixed site licenses.

Not sure if this helps - but I'd strongly suspect human error here.
