You should read the rules when you join really.

Very good, but the words 'talk', 'group(s)' or even 'DMR' don't appear there. I did a Ctrl F search.

It would be technically possible to do that, yes.

In practice, its much cheaper and easier (and less risk of accidentally TXing over them and causing trouble) to just get an SDR stick and listen that way.

but if there encrypted you still wont be able to listen and be wasting your money so being honest sdr is the better option and cheaper and like Freddie said you cant transmit on the frequency even if its by mistake cause one its illegal and two cause they will know that another user who isn't part of townlink is monitoring and probably disappear for good knowing that there comms aren't secure like they thought !

Get a DMR two way handheld (Tytera 380 / Retevis RT3 etc) get the details (talkgroups etc) put them in, select the RX only option. DMR has systems in place where only radios part of the system can key up on them (RAS). In another group someone has all the details.

Ras also stops the receive side not the transmit side and especially if encryption is enabled with the Ras so both sdr and radios are useless .
so again these people thinking if I buy this new scanner I,ll be able to hear everything dmr and nxdn are wrong If enhanced or basic and Ras is switched on then your not going to hear a thing sadly and because of all these users screaming for there stopwatch details that's how dmr listening is all heading and it will be game over for dmr listening soon .

Hi moj.

Having a look on the Uniden FAQ about the DMR upgrade and it states RAS systems are scannable. Would it be the case that as you are just listening to the digital transmission and not requesting access to the system that you can still scan And listen to RAS systems?

To confirm, both DSD+ and the Uniden 436/536 can scan MotoTRBO systems have RAS enabled. Transceivers that do not have the correct RAS key set cannot listen to RAS transmissions.

Thanks for that jim , next question is do we know yet if the whistler range has the same feature with scanning ras enabled transmissions or is it only the unidens that can do this ?
