on eBay there is a radio that it's guaranteed to pick up mototrbo digital radios that's it's dedicated job ( apparently) it has all ctcss & dcs it's called keruier dm uhf 400-480 MHz handheld radio transceiver I have no idea if this will work or if this is absolute crap
That's fine as a user handset on a network, but not fantastic for earwigging at home as there's no screen, unless you only intend to use to listen to the one system, ie Warrington showatch, in that case it will be fine.

If you're on a tight budget then it will do, but for another thirty quid you can get one of the TYT MD-380 variants with colour screen so you know what's going on.

Rather than me typing for half an hour, search this board for keywords.

Was it pubwatch, or just a local establishment with their own radios?

The likleyhood of the radio having the frequency written on it is zero.

There will be no way for you to tell what frequency its on without reading the radio with the manufacturers software, and even then, I bet the information on the radio will be password protected, to stop people doing precisely that.

I've just heard someone say it's encrypted ,how would they know that ,as quick as that ,I know all the radios are on one channel ,because I know the manager that picked up the radio off the council ,I asked him were the office is we're they talk from and he said they move about or something I not sure what he meant ,how would you know if it's encrypted or not ?

This is getting a bit fragmented. Warrington Storenet (shopwatch) went to RX: 455.7 and TX: 461.0 on 08/10/2015 Mototrbo.

Wait until you get your SDR dongle and you will be able to find out if they're encrypted or not, I would suggest that the laws of probability say that they are not.

I've no idea what this other radio is all about, and I would respectfully suggest that if you know people involved in the industry, then you should keep your gob shut about your intentions to earwig on them.
