I think this problem of cheep chineese handhelds being used willy nilly on HF frequencys is going to get much worse .
Wont be long before they are talking to Port shipping controlls or god fobid Air traffic controllers .

News to me a cheapo Baofeng doing HF or being able to 'do' AM to the ATC bods....

Most of the cheapo VHF ones can work marine channels... But Ebay is full of cheapo dedicated marine radios anyway regardless of the Baofeng invasion!

Its ok untill they start messing on the fireground freqs, i enjoy hearing the fire service but think they will be a lot better off with some digital gear. I pick a lot of the BF-888 default freqs up in my area and its mostly kids.

to be honest do some homework and talk on the pmr 446 frequencys rather than any frequency

one day you might want to chat on a frequency that you not familiar with and could be the coastguard , fire etc

pmr446 is decent enough for a test and legalish

PMR Frequencies
Channel Frequency in MHz
1 446.00625
2 446.01875
3 446.03125
4 446.04375
5 446.05625
6 446.06875
7 446.08125
8 446.09375

So presumably you haven't got a callsign Gav? - I heard a few tentative keyers on 145.500.

If you have a legit callsign, Gav I'm sure there are people willing to talk to you. However random freq on 410mhz with the callsign you gave doesn't look promising.
