The correct frequency will be either 165.600, 165.6125, or at a push, 165.5875. In that area it's 12.5 k steps only.

good evening andrew tryed the 6.25 steps has a bove, i would go for 165.606.25

Sorry Andrew i do not think it would be 12.5 has i looked around on 165.00 and 165. 010 and 165.612.5 it was NOT there. at my QTH, that why i gave the peak VFO has above.

In case you haven't worked it out, 6.25 is half of 12.5. The allocations were / are implemented by a government department, not me!!! From at least 163 - 170 mHz the allocated frequency spacing is 12.5. When I did a blew dust off the 'legendary' proma online database and searched 166.3 - 167 mHz for Nottinghamshire, all I got was:

PROMA PMR Database supplied by: scanpromauk THE SCANNING FREQUENCY GROUP http://groups.yahoo.com/group/scanpromauk/

166.375 171.175 FM DERBYSHIRE/NOTTINGHAMSHIRE/LEICESTERSHIRE East Midlands Ambulance Service Derbyshire Emergency EMAS Ch5 A & E West Dec-02

The group is so up to date, if you click on the Yahoo link which appears on the homepage, it tells you the group no longer exists!

It will be 12.5kHz spaced, no question.

If you can't receive it clearly using 12.5kHz spacing then it's probably an 'image' of another strong signal confusing the receiver.

Thank you, thank you, thank yoooooooouuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!!!!!!

I was inches away from asking if the East Midlands had it's own version of the radio spectrum!

There is a centre frequency, which has a bandwidth of so many kHz depending on where you are in the spectrum, and the frequency his radio seems to be locking into either the upper or lower. I was begining to feel alone in a crowd.

I had an AR 8200 years ago, and if the AFC was on it locked onto just slightly off the actual centre frequency. On my 3500 now I get hits of something like 449.39975 on the screen from security at the local jobcentre when in there, but the actual frequency is 449.400.

There are oodles of people out there knowing that the spacing is 12.5 kHz, I'm just glad finally someone agrees with me.

good Morning,

i know the 12.5 steps are there, but the only place it was was on that VFO dead.

i will say what i was not going to say. due to i feel it not nice, what if it was a group of people or some one, who just deside they will sit there and use their VFO.

i like to play with diffrent steps we know it 12.5, but i like the 6.25 steps

sometimes you find thing using that step and sometime i use 5. that in all placers in the in VHF and UHF. you never know what you may just find.

why i could not get it on 165.000 or 165.012.5 i do not know.

i am open to any idear and learning form others within fourms. that why i posted the VFO to see if any one could get it, has it did not sound right or look right in the place it was.

It's highly unlikely that the users of this frequency have a VFO, as this is usually limited to amateur radios. It's more probable that they'd have channelised radios with specific frequencies assigned to that channel number. There's a slim chance that you've stumbled across an out-of-band transmission or something that's out-of-tune, but to be honest I doubt that.

Have you got another of model of scanner that you can verify your findings on?

First it was near 165.6, now it's 165.0 ? :?
Can you confirm where, exactly?! :geek:

It's highly unlikely, given the bandwidth of a scanner, that something centered on xxx.00625 can't be heard almost as well on xxx.005
- BUT in this part of the spectrum the 12.5kHz steps are used, as others have already pointed out. Having said that, I did have a case locally a few years back that was off tune and halfway between channels on the base side! I had to see where the mobiles were TXing to see where the base should have been!

So, listen for the mobile side of things at 4.8 higher if it's 165.6, or 4.5 lower if it's 165.0, then you'll know if it's genuine or not.
