Prison Radios in the clear?

Post by birchy65 »

Hi,
Just got a new hand held scanner and sitting around getting to know what does what on it I got it searching (the pre-programmed search bands) and up popped 451.600 with a callsign of XK which I feel must be a prison somewhere but as there isn't one close to where I live, I'm assuming the good conditions are helping, I'm located in North Norfolk and would be interested to know who this is......

Thanks

Ian

Depending on where you are in Norfolk, I believe M2XK used to be North Sea Camp in Lincolnshire which is right next to the Marsh at Freiston so just over the water from Norfolk. I used to live near here and had these frequencies for it

TX 451.600 RX 465.500 CTCSS 118.8

Hope this helps

Search Google for "M2XK callsign". All Home Office two letter callsigns have an 'M2' prefix, even if it is rarely used.

Doesn't mean what Google turns up is always accurate of course…
KEY : = channel/stud | ~ = CTCSS/DCS | ^ = transmitter site | ¯ = overhead | * = trunked

Hi Everyone
Taken me a while to get back on here and reply but yes indeed, you are correct. It turned out to be North Sea Camp.

I can confirm that Whitemoor prison Cat A (M2VX) March Cambs is still using 460.525 (main) and also traffic on 460.6625, CTCSS 118.8 Nothing heard on 460.7 or 467.025 but I'm a little way away so may not get the mobiles.
